SCHNITTKE, Alfred (1934-98): Klaviertrio
Das zweisätzige Klaviertrio von Schnittke entstand 1992 als Umarbeitung des 1985 entstandenen Streichtrios. Es ist ein leicht zugängliches, aber erschütterndes Werk, von Grenzerfahrungen und letzten Dingen sprechend (Schnittke erlitt 1985 den ersten von vielen Hirnschlägen). Die Fassung für Klaviertrio wurde Schnittkes Frau, der Pianistin Irina Schnittke gewidmet. Ich hatte das Riesenglück, dieses Trio mit ihr und mit Schnittkes engem Freund und Biographen, dem Cellisten Alexander Ivashkin aufführen zu dürfen. Es gibt heute wohl keine berufeneren Interpreten und Mentoren für dieses Stück als diese beiden hervorragenden Musiker. Konzertveranstaltern sei ans Herz gelegt, Irina Schnittke einzuladen solange sie noch spielen will. (P.K.)

SCHNITTKE, Alfred (1934-98): Piano Trio
Schnittkes piano trio in two movements is a 1992 reworking of his 1985 string trio. It is easily understood by audiences but at the same time a highly expressive and troublesome music reflecting personal experience of deadly disease (1985 Schnittke suffered the first of many cerebral strokes). The version for piano trio was dedicated to Schnittkes wife the pianist Irina Schnittke. I had the privilege to play this trio with her and with Schnittkes close friend and biographer, the cellist Alexander Ivashkin. There cannot be today any better interpreters and mentors for this piece than these two excellent musicians. Concert promoters should not miss to invite Irina Schnittke as long as she is still willing to play.
